It seems that Motor City of Detroit has come on hard times and has had to file for the largest bankruptcy of any city ever.
However, things weren’t always so glum, so let’s take a look at some of the best autos to come out of the once pearly gates of this great motoring city.
Ford Model T
The Model T was the car that created mass motoring for the auto industry as we know it. Available in any color as long as it was black, the Model T was an auto that was affordable, reliable, and put America on the move.
The cars were made from 1908 until 1927 and are one of the most infamous autos on the planet.
The Dodge Viper
If you tried to imagine an all American sports car you probably couldn’t come up with anything more like it than the Dodge Viper.
The car has been around for over 20 years now and is still as crazy as ever.
The latest versions come with an 8.4l V10 engine producing a colossal 640hp and 600lb of torque.
It really and truly is the epitome of the American Dream.
Table of all Model Vehicles

The Dodge Viper | 1991 | $50,000 | 165 MPH |
Ford Mustang | 1964½ | $2,368 | 110 MPH |

Detroit Electric SP:01 | 2013 | $135,000 | 155 mph |
Ford Mustang
The Mustang is not made in the middle of the Motor City, though it is made in the town of Flat Rock, which is around 30 miles away.
The Ford Mustang is the muscle car everyone thinks of when they think of American cars of the 1960s and 1970s and it’s the quintessential auto for the city. The 1965 Mustang Fastback was a popular car in its day. Nowadays, you see many colors of Mustang convertible cruising the highways.
Dodge Charger
The Charger is one of the most famed of the 1970s muscle cars and is most infamous for its appearance on the TV show The Dukes of Hazard.
The first versions of the cars were built in Detroit Michigan and as you’d well imagine, they came with a V8 engine at their heart.
Ford GT40 Mark IV
This version of the infamous Ford racing car was the most extreme – well what else would you expect from Detroit.
The car replaced its British built predecessors in style and came with a colossal 7.0l V8 engine, which could take the race car past the 220 mph mark – a very impressive feat in its day and still now mind you.
Ford F-Series
The F-Series is the best-selling and longest running name in Ford’s repertoire and has been the best-selling car in the USA for 28 years on the trot.
It’s in essence and American icon and has been made in Dearborn, Detroit since 1948 – something of a testament to the city itself.
Checkered Cab
The checkered cab is the iconic taxi of the USA and has been the star of numerous Hollywood movies.
The original was made in Kalamazoo, Michigan – close to Detroit. The auto was manufactured between 1955 and 1982 and is an American icon that we at Multi Quote Taxi Insurance still love.
Detroit Electric SP:01
The SP:01 is the future of the city and is made by Detroit Electric, who formerly produced electric cars in the first half of the 20th century.
In fact, they made 13,000 between 1906 and 1939. The new car is said to be the fastest electric vehicle on earth with a top speed of 155mph and a 0-60 time of less than 4 seconds.
The prototype was made in the EU, however, the end car will be manufactured en-masse in Detroit.
Detroit is at the center of some of the best and most popular cars in American history, so expect it to rise again – maybe.
